Romance scams typically targeting baby boomers and older generations are becoming increasingly popular on dating apps and websites, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Just last year, the FBI's Internet Crime Report estimated that Americans lost more than $650 million to romance scams. Bernard Kim, CEO of Match Group, spoke with CBS News on the growing threat of online romance scams carried out by people overseas. Match Group — which owns Match.com and Tinder — is the largest online dating company in the United States. Match Group did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider.

A protester self-immolated on Friday afternoon outside of the Israeli Consulate building in Atlanta, in what the police described as “likely an extreme act of political protest.”A security guard tried to intervene but was unsuccessful, officials said. “Our prayers are with the security officer who was injured while trying to prevent this tragic act.”The self-immolation occurred outside a building in the Midtown area of Atlanta that houses the consulate and several other offices. “It appears to have been focused outside the building. Please pass the smelling salts. The country’s highest constitutional court ruled this month that one of the coalition government’s main gimmicks for funding green projects violates Germany’s version of a balanced-budged amendment. That amendment, known as the debt brake, caps the government’s fiscal deficit at 0.35% of gross domestic product per year except in emergencies (as defined by special legislation passed with a majority in the Bundestag).

Politicians will now negotiate to form a governing coalition, a process that often takes months in the Netherlands’ highly fragmented electoral system, and Mr. Wilders may not emerge as prime minister.

The IRS is doing a favor for itself and President Biden as much as it is for Americans. Readers may recall that the American Rescue Plan Act in March 2021 lowered the threshold for third parties reporting transactions on Form 1099-K to $600 annually from $20,000. Democrats’ goal was to nab Americans who allegedly dodge taxes by failing to report income earned from, say, driving for Uber or renting out second homes on Airbnb.

U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings declared a mistrial in the case Thursday after the jury said it couldn’t reach a consensus following days of deliberation, according to the Justice Department. Brett Hankison , the former officer, was charged with violating the civil rights of Taylor, her boyfriend and her neighbors when prosecutors said he blindly fired 10 shots into her home. The federal charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
